New Technology Advances Eye Disease Detection at the Eye Care Center of Leesburg

We are excited to announce that we have added the Optomap Retinal Imager to enhance your eye exam experience and improve our ability to detect ocular disease.  We use this panoramic digital camera to get an ultra-widefield view of the retina (the back of the eye).  In addition to your vision check and a look at the front of the eye to evaluate health, your eye exam needs to include a thorough screening of the retina to verify that your eye is healthy.  This can lead to early detection of common diseases such as glaucoma, diabetes, macular degeneration, and even cancer.  The exam is quick, painless, and may not require dilation drops.

We all want to protect our eyesight and overall health for ourselves and our family - that is why annual eye exams are important. Regular eye care and exams can protect and prevent many eye diseases, if detected early. Your Optomap examination will help us get a much more comprehensive look at the inside your eye.

We also recommend the Optomap examination for children.  They are often the most difficult to examine and they generally hate dilating eye drops.  There is no quicker, easier way to get a good look at a child's retina.  In fact, the instrument was invented by an engineer who had a child that lost an eye to a tumor.  He knew that there needed to be a better way to examine the internal eye and the Optomap is the result.
